Purple Book: IAP Guidebook on Immunization 2025 by Digant D Shastri, 5th Edition

The team of ACVIP 2024–25 feels privileged to present before you the fifth edition of “Purple Book: IAP Guidebook on Immunization 2025” where not only the previous edition chapters have been reviewed and revised, but is also equipped with a newer section on vaccines which are in the pipeline—the vaccines which have been in use but have yet not received the DCGI clearance in India. It will help the practitioners to manage overseas children with advise on vaccination. “Ideal Immunization Clinic”, vaccine preparedness for the pandemic, and revised AEFI form have also been added. The book is an outcome of the intensive efforts of the team AVCIP 2024–25 who have done an evidence-based review of hundreds of research papers and several rounds of offline and online discussions to make this “Purple Book: IAP Guidebook on Immunization 2025” a reliable companion for the pediatricians in their office practice and serve as “Ready Reckoner”. We aim that the reader of this book provides “evidence-based” immunization services to their patients and by that way not just keep them healthy but also keep our nation healthy. We would like to specifically thank our section reviewers Dr Chandra Mohan Kumar, Dr Anurag Agarwal, Dr Sumitha Nayak, and Dr B Rajsekhar, who worked tirelessly to review all the chapters once again after the first round of peer review. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), through its Advisory Committee on Vaccines and Immunization Practices (ACVIP), consistently puts its efforts to update knowledge of all those medical practitioners who are involved with immunization activity—pediatricians, pediatric postgraduate students as well as family physicians through various means. The “IAP Guidebook on Immunization” is one of such activities, whose first edition was published in 2007–2008 and since than periodically, a new edition of it is being published by IAP with the latest evidence-based information and recommendations. For IAP member, the “Guidebook” holds value no less than Bhagavad Gita/Bible/Quran.
